Whether it’s the zombie apocalypse, or a simple hunting trip, you need to consider finding, and buying one of the best flashlights on the market. Everyone says that they’re not afraid of the dark, but let’s face it; if you’re thrown out into the woods, around 2 A.M. at night, and you don’t know the area, you’re gonna geek out a bit. What if a flashlight could alleviate all of that fear? Whether it be an emergency, or a working situation, a good flashlight will prove to be invaluable.
While flashlights are great at working, and moving in the dark, they are also an incredibly good self-defense tool. Whether it be a pesky zombie trying to eat your face, or some idiot trying to break into your house, a bright, and powerful enough flashlight will render them blind and immobile. At that point, you can just watch them run into a wall and giggle. Or, you could just simply bash the zombie in the head, instead. However, finding a capable flashlight can prove to be a difficult task.
Luckily, for you, we have been working on a review of the best flashlights of 2018 that will allow you to combat the darkness, and put the odds of survival back in your favor. Stop being afraid of the dark. Instead, blind it!

The Fenix PD35 TAC is easily the best flashlight on the market. It uses a Cree XP-L V5 LED that is capable of a lifespan up to 50,000 hours with a brightness that consumers constantly brag about. That is 2,083 days! It is powered by one, 18650 rechargeable Lithium Ion battery, or two 3V CR123A lithium batteries allowing for flexibility in battery-use.
The Fenix PD35 flashlight is perfect for everyday use, and also strong enough to withstand the most extreme conditions. It is constructed with an aircraft-grade aluminum that is anodized ensuring it maintains that quality.
It is extremely compact, and lightweight allowing for it to be carried with you anywhere with no hassle. With a tactical mode operation, that is utilized by the stainless steel side switch, you can experience three different operating modes: turbo, strobe, and low. The brightness of this flashlight is approximately 1000 lumen.
The Streamlight 692690 TLR-1 is different in the sense that it is a mountable flashlight. This can prove to be super important when on a hunting, or a camping trip. Simply attach the flashlight to a tree, and you have light for the entire camp site! Just make sure you angle it well, because the C4 LED delivers 12,000 candela peak beam intensity as well as the 800 lumens it produces may prove to be a little too powerful.
It is also capable of being mounted onto a broad range of weapons. The flashlight has a one-handed snap-on that will tighten the interface allowing you to keep your hands separate from the muzzle when attaching, and detaching for additional safety.
Constructed with machined aircraft aluminum on an anodized finish, you can expect it to be durable in extreme conditions. It also has a shock-mounted glass lens that makes sure the actual lens of the flashlight cannot become damaged easily.
The Kootek Tactical Mini flashlight is a perfect choice for small children. Whether they are cycling, or camping, you can expect them to be able to see in the dark. The LED bulb produces 300 lumen at it’s max settings, so it isn’t so bright that you will blind anyone.
It has an adjustable focus torch light that allows for long distance observation, or a more wide area of illumination. The Kootek flashlight has 3 different brightness modes, easily switchable. These are high, low, and sos for emergency situations. It is small, and portable, allowing you to carry it in small bags, or even within your pockets.
The Anker Ultra Bright flashlight is certainly one of the most powerful, and brightest, flashlights on the market. The 3-Cree LEDs it is equipped with offer an insanely bright, 1300 lumen light output. It is capable of crossing the length of two football fields, and reaching lengths of over 1200 ft. With the five adjustable settings, you will be able to use the flashlight in a variety of situations. Easily switchable, they are High, Medium, Low, Strobe, and SOS for emergency situations.
Equipped with a 26650, rechargeable battery, the Anker flashlight is capable of lasting 6 hours, on the brightest setting. Keep in mind, the battery is included in this purchase so you don’t have to buy any additional product to use. Simply plug the flashlight into an outlet that has a USB port, and watch it charge.
It is capable of being used in the rain, or water for approximately 30 minutes, but we recommend avoiding this “feature”. The anti-slip, and ergonomic handle allow for easy control in the most extreme conditions. The Anker flashlight is also capable of being stood on it’s end, illuminating an entire room.
The Streamlight 88061 ProTac flashlight is more of a convenient flashlight. It doesn’t offer quite nearly the lumens it’s competitors do, with a maximum of 350 lumens. It has three different brightness settings that allow for different battery life. On high, it has an incredibly low runtime of 1.5 hours. On medium, it is capable of running for 3.5 hours, and on low beam or strobe, 6.75 continuous hours.
The Streamlight flashlight is perfect for camping, or hiking trips. It is powered by 1x AA battery, or 1x AA Lithium-Ion battery. This allows for extra convenience because you can just simply carry extra batteries. While 350 lumens may not be the brightest, it is totally practical when exploring in the dark, and it comes with a super convenient clip so you don’t have to worry about it taking up space.
The Outlite A100 flashlight is our pick for best budget flashlight. It offers an enormous amount of comfort within your hands, and pockets, while maintaining the necessary features you expect in a flashlight.
It has an adjustable focus that allows for an intense spotlight up to 600 feet, and a circle floodlight for a large area of illumination. Certainly a good way to freak out some of your buddies, haha! The skid-proof design, and water-resistance capabilities allow for an incredibly durable flashlight for it’s price. On top of that, it has 3 brightness levels for increased battery life: High, Medium, and Low.
The Outlite A100 flashlight is powered by 1 18650 Lithium-Ion battery, that isn’t included, or 3 AAA batteries that aren’t included either. We recommend going with the AAA batteries for more convenience. Unless, of course, you already have an 18650 battery.
The J5 Hyper V flashlight was one of my personal favorites. It was capable of fitting in the palm of my hand, while maintaining a legitimate lumen count with 400. Don’t forget the convenient pocket clamp that usually goes unnoticed. It is capable of producing an intense beam, of bright light, to upwards of 800 feet away.
From the factory, it is capable of being switched between three different modes. High, Low, and strobe. The strobe is mostly used as a defensive tactic, allowing you to disorient your attackers. The high mode is generally used for the darkest of nights, where low is used mostly for a bit of light, and reduced battery consumption.
We found that the J5 Hyper V flashlight was perfect when hunting, camping, fishing in the early morning, and any general outdoor activity. If you’re looking for a quality flashlight on a budget, the J5 Hyper V is a legitimate contender.
The Victagen Tactical flashlight is the second brightest flashlight in our reviews. The XML T6 LED allows for an incredible 1230 lumen count that is capable of sending a bright beam of light up to 1200 feet. The flashlight is even zoomable, with five different light modes (High, Middle, Low, Strobe, and SOS). The XML T6 has a lifespan of over 100,000 hours, which is the longest, by far, out of any flashlight in our review.
The 18650 Lithium-Ion battery it is equipped with is rechargeable, with the included USB cable. With these batteries, we recommend using them until they are totally dead before a recharge. Lithium-Ion batteries are weird in that sense; they have a break-in period essentially.
The Victagen flashlight is water-resistant allowing for the use of it in rainy, and wet conditions. It is capable of resisting submersion in 3.28 ft deep water for up to 30 minutes. Make sure you do not adjust the focus when using it in wet conditions. The high-strength aero-grade aluminum alloy body is treated with a military anodize finish that prevents scratching, and abrasions maintaining that sleek, and sexy design.
The Victagen is the most powerful budget flashlight on our list of best flashlights of 2018. Look at all of those features, and then take a quick glance at the price. I had to do a triple-take because I didn’t believe it.
Streamlight 88060 flashlight is perhaps the most traditional looking flashlight in our review. The others, in my opinion, look like lightsabers. The simple design intrigues me, as I feel like the others have a sense of cheapness in them. The manufacturers try to approach them as cool new toys, when they are supposed to be used as tools. Streamlight gets that, and I think you will too.
The Streamlight 88060 aims to provide the brightest light within the industry. This baby is equipped with C4 LED technology that is capable of providing a lumen count of 2,200. This easily makes it the most bright flashlight in our review. It is capable of being powered by four 3 volt lithium CR123A batteries, that are included, or 2 18650 Lithium-Ion batteries. They will power the flashlight for up to 2.5 hours of continuous runtime.
It has an ambidextrous steady on-off switch allowing for easy usage in either hand. Constructed with machined aluminum, and a black anodized finish, you can expect an incredibly durable, and scratch-free flashlight. Did we mention it is also water, and dustproof? Yeah. If you’re not a fan of the black color, you can experience it a red-pinkish color. Perfect for a man, or woman.
The Syntus Military flashlight is the cheapest on our list. While it may be cheap, it certainly doesn’t act like it. Providing an incredible 1000 lumen count, you can expect a bright light to lead the way when hiking, or camping. This flashlight is one of the most efficient ones on the market.
The Syntus flashlight will fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. However, if you don’t want to carry it around all the time when not operating it, it has a convenient wrist-wrap. It has an adjustable focus allowing you to zoom into spots where you need an extra bit of brightness. See something suspicious? Zoom that lens, and figure out what it is immediately! With five different working modes (strong, middle, dim, strobe, and sos), you have a wide variety of choices depending on the situation you are in.
The flashlight’s endcap is sealed with superior, and all-natural rubber that will help maintain skid, and water-resistance. This will increase the durability of the product, and extend it’s lifespan. For the super cheap price, you are getting an incredible amount of flashlight from the Syntus. If you’re on an extreme budget, or need a flashlight for a short hike, or camping trip, we highly recommend the Syntus flashlight.
